Abstract

Three Colombian documents signed by Antonio Nariño in 1821are transcribed in this paper. The first seems to be a draft of a letteraddressed to the Congress of Colombia offering a constitutionalproject of his own authorship. The second is an amanuensis' copyof that letter, with the corresponding answer of the Congress andthe introduction of the aforementioned project. The third is a letteraddressed to the Liberator Simón Bolívar in which Nariño tells himabout his decision to submit the constitutional project in order tofinish the confrontations between the two political parties of that time, centralism and federalism; and in which he also tells him about thelatest events in Colombia. The manuscripts are analyzed formallyto specify the typical features of the mastermind and of the copyistof the text; showing possible linguistic changes resulting from thetranscription process Also, some comments will be made regardingsome orthographic and phonetic characteristics of the documentswhich belong to American Spanish.
