Abstract

Among the many chronicles and articles written about the Chilean writer Joaquín Edwards Bello (1887-1968) there is an often neglected reference. When mentioned, it is referred as a rumor or mere speculation. It concerns his involvement in the European avant-garde. The only evidence from his relationship with dadaism is his book Metamorfosis (1921), where he declares that he has been made president of dada by Tristan Tzara himself. This paper pretends to establish the place that Joaquín Edwards Bello/Jacques Edwards really occupied in the European avant-garde.
